Sore Toenails? Ingrown Nail or Callus Build-Up: Knowing the Difference Matters
Toenail soreness is often mistaken for an ingrown toenail, but it’s frequently caused by hard callus building up beneath or around the nail. While the symptoms can be similar, the causes and treatments are different.
Ingrown toenails occur when the nail presses into the surrounding skin, causing tenderness and inflammation, and may require podiatric care to prevent recurrence. Calluses, on the other foot, form from repeated pressure and can cause discomfort by pushing up under the nail. These cases need careful callus reduction rather than excess nail cutting so as not to cause more callus down the track.
All of our pedicures at Juren address callus concerns, with our Juren Medi Pedi designed for more complex cases, which use a stronger peel system. We safely break down dead skin, identify the cause of discomfort, restore comfort, and support long-term nail health.

Juren's $100 Donation Charity of the Month Cerebral Palsy Alliance
What is cerebral palsy?
Cerebral palsy is a physical disability that affects movement and posture. It is the most common physical disability in children. Cerebral palsy is an umbrella term for a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move. In most cases, it is caused by an injury to the developing brain either during pregnancy or shortly after birth. It is a lifelong condition that generally does not worsen over time.
Donations help dedicated therapists provide vital ongoing support to children and adults with cerebral palsy and fund world-leading research into the treatment and prevention of cerebral palsy.
Your help is needed now more than ever. Cerebral palsy is the most common childhood physical disability. For an Australian child diagnosed with cerebral palsy, every 20 hours, donations can make a huge impact.
